Helen Keller is Following Me on Twitter

Yep, the title says it all.  I don't want to sit here and make a bunch of silly jokes.  I just had to tell you, that when I found out Santa Claus and Helen Keller were both following me on twitter, I was pretty ecstatic.  Christmas came early.  (Cade should be thrilled that he doesn't have to buy me a thing!)

Photobucket

If you aren't familiar with twitter, it's this great place where you can find people (even famous movie stars AND politicians--ANYONE), and follow them.  Loads of people make up fictitious names just to gain followers, but if you watch closely, you can tell when someone's a counterfeit.  The great thing about Helen, was that I knew she was a fake right off the bat!  "Why?" you ask.  Well, it's because vampires aren't real.
So anyway, these people don't have to follow you back, although you can still see their (few sentence) updates whether funny or serious.
Whenever someone follows me, I follow them back.  It just seems like the right thing to do.  I believe in fairness, and I hate taking things from people.  If I borrow an egg from a neighbor, I practically want to buy them a chicken.  If someone gives me a ride to the store, I want to fill up their tank--you get the point.
On twitter, I followed everyone who followed me first . . . Except for porn*lover.  I didn't follow him back.  I had a hard moment that day.  He'd followed me, the nice thing was to follow him back.  But the problem is, I'm not into porn--not at all--if he was, whatever (as long as he isn't a pastor).  Seriously, though, why make a twitter name about it?  If he could pick ONE name to describe himself online, why that?  Is porn his driving force?  After all, I picked the name ECWrites because it fits me.  Plus, if I die (while using that twitter name) I'll have an easy time explaining it to God.
Poor, porn*lover on the other hand.  I can picture Judgement Day for that schmuck.  The angel of death would leaf through the Book of Life.  "Oh, Sir, it says here you named yourself porn*lover on twitter.  Of the millions of names you might have picked . . . interesting.  What would your mother think? Oh wait, she's right here, let's ask her!"   That would SUCK!

Back to the point . . .
Now that you have the basics down, you'll understand why I followed Santa Baby and Helen Keller Kelly back.  Too bad though!  I checked my profile today and Helen Keller is no longer following me.
Some of these tweeters bother me.  They follow you, in the hopes that you'll follow back--so they can just unfollow you (did you catch that). Then, they'll have more followers than Zeus!  I checked Kelly's profile.  She has a few hundred followers and she's currently following 2 people back!  Would this bother you?  It bothers me.  Not only is this woman pretending to be Helen (even in her posts), she's trying to give her a bad name!  Helen might be rolling in her grave because some jerk doesn't follow back.  I've reseached the Kell-ster.  She would have followed back--honestly, that's a fact.

Do you believe in being fair?
I sure do.  If someone helps you; it's right to try and help them back when the time comes.  But in the same sense, if someone unfollows you, it's right to unfollow them back.  Equality baby, I love it.

What would you have done?  Are you on twitter?

Signing off (with my twitter name)

  1. Yes, I am with you. I follow others who follow me out of fairness.

I do try to stay away from that philosophy in commenting though. I read and comment on lots of blogs because I like the content and want to leave something genuine--some of whom who have never commented on my blog.

  2. First off, I don't twitter. At least not online. I've got enough going on in my life that I don't need more "chatter" going on. But if I were into it, I would definitely follow you. When a blogger starts to follow me, I go read who they are are most times follow them. I wouldn't follow porn*lover either. :-)

  3. I follow back if it's obviously not spam. My least favorite followers are the ones that just are all ads for crap I don't want. Not going to follow you if all you do is shill.

  4. I follow others as long as they aren't porn lovers (you find quite a few on twitter) or spammers. So as long as they have had legit tweets, don't have something in their description about being 'dirty and frisky', and have a normal ratio of followers and followees (like your Kelly lady only following 2 people wouldn't make the cut) then I follow back. Maybe I'm a heartless tweeter who likes a decent group of followees. Oh and I have taken people off my follower list for being plain skanky or just spammers...am I mean???

  5. Those are good points.

I've unfollowed a few for constantly trying to sell insurance LOL! That cracked me up.
They unfollowed me shortly after. ;)

  6. i have a twitter account, but just can't get into using it or following it much. i'm a twitter failure.

  7. I follow back unless they are spammers, porn related or have thousands of followers and no tweets. My pet peeve is those who follow me and then unfollow when I follow them back. I use FriendorFollow to find out who they are and then unfollow them.

  8. LOL @ Helen Keller and Santa Claus following you on Twitter! You're so lucky :P And I agree w/ the follow back thing. I do the same.

  10. I don't do Twitter, Facebook, etc., etc. At my age, I figure I'm doing good enough if I can use my computer to leave comments on a blog.

  11. 1. I'm jealous Santa is following you. He always hated me. :(

    2. That Helen Keller, she gets around and leaves people high and dry. I wouldn't worry about her. Skank.

  12. Agreed. Nice to meet you <3 a new follower

  13. hahaha oh the Twitter waves. I don't follow anyone back. I have a program that does it for me muwahaha

I eventually get around to those that unfollow me. But as far as spammers go with three accounts and 70,000+ on them, it's too much work to look through them all and unfollow. I'm lucky if I can keep up with those #FF things..haha

As far as tit for tat goes, yep I try to live by that as well.

  14. I'm not on Twitter, but I probably will jump on the bandwagon soon.
Being followed by Santa Claus is a huge feat!

  15. I have recently unfollowed the most spammy people because I can't keep up with them all and now I regret it a bit, because you can't expect to keep up with them all, but anyway that's not your point. There are some people who follow you just so you'll follow them back and then after two weeks when you won't notice they unfollow you. I think it's a bit rude to follow 30 people and have 1500 or so following you. We're not Elvis we're only writers :P on the other side of it though it gets a bit unmanageable doing lists and keeping them updates so you have to rely on them using hashtags. Hashtags everyone!

  16. oh goodness Elisa! i love your writing! lol

no, I wouldn't have followed Pornlover either.

And; personally, if they are the type that will follow you just to get you to follow them back and then they unfollow you; I think you are justified in unfollowing them in return.

I try to be fair and follow back who follows me; but I also try to view a few of their posts to see if it will even be interesting for me..I mean..I'm going to be seeing these posts frequently; is this something I'm going to want to be seeing ALL the time? Posts on Automobiles, porn, and things written completely in foreign languages...no, those just don't appeal to me, so I don't follow those users in return. I also have to take into consideration, that at any given moment in the day, my kids will suddenly show up looking over my shoulder at my computer screen. I have to always make sure what is on my screen is suitable for them to see...so I'm probably a bit more "selective" that others would be. but hey, I'm following you!

  17. fairness is important. i have not been able to get around and read as much lately as i had been reading online, and neither have i been able to post as much. but i think, or rather hope that if we are true and genuine, then things work out. after a couple years blogging, i find it easy to identify takers, those who speak and don't want to listen. and that's okay. i've been a taker at various points in my life. but i'm mostly interested in fair exchange of time and ideas these days.

i'm not on twitter anymore becuz my account was hacked. then i changed the password and it was still hacked, so i had to deactivate it, which sucked becuz it took me nearly two years to accumulate the hundred or so followers i had. oh, well. everything must happen for a reason, right?:)

  18. I'm on Twitter; but don't tweet all day every day like some people. Does anyone really care that I just ate some Ding-Dongs?

BTW- Some nut job followed me the other day on Twitter. He said he was only interested in sex and would be most happy to send a nude photo of himself if I followed him.

    EWWWWWWWW.....

  19. Ah, the ever-important, unsaid Twitter rules. I definitely follow back everyone who follows me- it's the nice thing to do - but, I won't follow back spam, people who have a billion followers and hardly anyone they're following, vendors, or people who go by moniker of "porn lover" for that matter...lol. I'll also go a step further and "block" or report any of those I just mentioned. In the future, I don't want an agent seeing my number of followers and noticing that I've got a hundred "people" following me that aren't really people...

    Great topic today!

  20. ha,ha I can imagine. How you gonna follow porn lover? Is his fault for getting such a name anyway! <3<3

  21. He, he... "If I borrow an egg from a neighbor, I practically want to buy them a chicken."

I can't believe people "unfollow" to selfish reasons.

  22. Awesome post! Twitter is crazy like that, isn't it? Yes, I believe in fairness and follow people back that follow me unless I see that they are in someway offensive or if I notice they follow only a few people and have tons of followers. THAT BUGS ME!!!!!!!
Anyway.... I don't use twitter that much any more, but I'll have to follow you. :) I'm @lubbockslaquer :)

  23. Lol If I could figure out how to follow and unfollow people on twitter I'd surely do it. However I'm about as dumb as a box of rocks. As for Helen, she's just a meanie face.

  25. I follow everyone back except the porn lovers and car dealerships ( why would they follow me? I don't talk about cars) but the big day for me was when Crown Burger started following me. that reminds me, I need to follow them back.

  26. This is so funny!! So was Santa really following you, I'm a little jealous, Santa has not been following me!! Lol!! I always enjoy my visits to your site, thanks for the great laugh!!

  27. That was a funny post. yea twitter is so wicked strange. They follow me, I follow back then I get an email that they are following me - I don't get it. I do follow back unless they are wacko's or porn! Stopping by from vB

  28. It's a weird world, this place on Twitter. I just got an e-mail tonight that was, "hey, I saw your profile on Alexa, and I want to get to know you. E-mail me, and I can send you a picture." It's from someone named Mrs. Lily Rose(like a grandma or something). Can you imagine back in your single days in a bar, and someone coming up to you to say that? What a line! Only in the online world, can you say or write funky stuff like that;)

  29. I'm pretty good about following back unless I notice they're obviously spammers. Although I definitely prefer people who actually post and will chat with others. Some people are great at it and it's wonderful to meet these people. Others act like its a one way mirror. I get this image of some people getting a response to a tweet and then looking all confused. "Why is the tv talking back to me?" :)

  30. I'm not on Twitter- Facebook is enough for me. This post cracked me up. I absolutely believe in fairness and in giving back to those who give to you- but everyone just wants to take, take, take these days. Enjoyed your post! :)

  31. I really enjoyed this post! I definitely believe that if someone follows you- you should follow back. I do that because if someone did it for me, I want to do it for them. Occasionally I may miss someone- but I try to check every now and then. I don't follow back people with names like the one you mentioned. :)

  32. I actually joined Twitter because I thought it'd be a great way to interact with other bloggers. Oddly, I barely follow any of them as most I originally followed just post from Triberr and links to their blog posts. Instead I mostly follow celebs who talk about their projects and their family lives and who interact with their fans. It was just too time-consuming to go through my feed and see links to blog posts that were irrelevant to me or that were from blogs that I follow on Blogger. And I'm the kind of person who has to read/skim through all updates in my Twitter stream (and FB wall and Blogger reader...)

Other than that, I agree on being fair. Even for doing something like helping out: you clean house for a sick neighbor and the neighbor makes a meal for you and your family when you're hurt. Win-win!

    ReplyDelete
  33. yup I'm on twitter but you knew that.
I will follow back unless you are one of those people that will take up an entire day blowing twitter up telling me your life story.
Yes it has happened, I will then unfollow and block your butt.
While Helen Keller and Santa Claus may not be following me, Jesus Christ sent me an email.
    no joke.
    BEAT THAT!
    lol

  34. I want an e-mail from Jesus LOL! That is awesome!

  35. I definitely prefer fewer quality relationships, on Twitter and elsewhere ;), over ample quantity - just for the sake of "numbers." Regardless, very cool to say you've been followed by H. Keller and S. Clause!

PS I so enjoyed the Golden Sky Blog Fest. Thanks again!

  36. That was great! I still can't seem to master Twitter, but I did notice that some pro surfer started following me and then I started questioning how Twitter really works, because I'm terrible at it and always forget to tweet and I just feel lost really. Perhaps if I start to follow you on Twitter, Santa Claus will find me too. And you can have the pro surfer. Good stuff! I will be your newest subscriber :)

  37. Dear Elisa,
Yes, if someone helps me, I want to help them back. I don't twitter, but I do recognize goodness when I see it and I want to thank you right now--on your blog--for all the help you are giving me about "A Cat's Life: Dulcy's Story." You have become my mentor on how to get the good news out that the book is now available. Thank you a bushel and a peck!

    Peace.

  38. I will follow back but always check first. I don’t follow back anyone into porn, a bot, or spammer. If they never just talk but do nothing but #FF all the time trying to get their numbers up, I’m not interested. If all they do is push their book, product or articles, again – not interested. I look for the real people. Too many accounts are automated now.

  39. Being a schizophrenic, I'm not really wild about anyone following me, but if it has to happen, better off with someone who is blind.
    ;o.
