I wrote a song about my divorce: Walk the Fire Alone

I may be the goofiest goofball, but I'm having a terribly hard time with my divorce.  So after thinking about a certain idea myself and then receiving timely advice from Dee Ready (Coming Home to Myself Blog) I decided to write a song about my divorce.  It's rough, but I hope you'll possibly like it.

Walk the Fire Alone

Lyrics ©2013 Elisa Morris

There's a storm and it's coming for me.
Will I be strong enough, and will it set me free?
Carry me, I can't make it on my own.
But you aren't here, so I'll walk the fire alone.

The wind's a rustlin' and the ground turns to fire.
Soon I feel, nothin' but desire.
The flames are creepin' closer to my feet.
But I will walk the fire alone.

Burn with desire...
as I walk my own way.
Burn with desire...
as the fire takes my pain away.

There's a storm and it's coming for me.
Will I be strong enough, and will it set me free?
Carry me, I can't make it on my own.
But you aren't here, so I'll walk the fire alone.

Burn with desire...
as I walk my own way.
Burn with desire...
as the fire takes my pain away.

There's a storm and it came for me.
I was strong enough, and it set me free.
Don't carry me, I can make it on my own.
You weren't there...
so I walked...
the fire alone...

  4. Beautiful! I feel both your pain and your strength..You are strong and you will come trough this even stronger! You kids will motivate you more than you know..I'm speaking from experience. Writing in any way shape or form is always therapeutic. Use your talent to help you get those feelings out and heal...one step..one day... at a time! You're in my thoughts and prayers everyday! :)

  7. Nicely done, you can rhyme well under your sun. The storm will come the storms will go, but as you walk or ride in grocery carts you'll get through them at your show haha

  8. Wonderful song.

    NOW...

Um, hello? Unless I'm mistaken, this is still relatively new stuff going on... (I mean the settling on Divorce as a final decision, not necessarily the decent) so it's OKAY TO NOT HANDLE IT WELL. And who's to say you're not??? We all do it different, there is no WAY to handle it. It can take years (sorry) to really work your way through all of it, and some things stick around for life (good and bad). I am happily remarried now (almost 11 years after my divorce) and there's still things that creep up from that relationship/split, as their are for Tony (He's been divorced 16 years) IT'S OKAY AND NORMAL!!! < Shouting font, with love. :)

Focus on YOU and the kids and you'll come out just fine. No, better than you can even imagine right now.

  12. Very nicely sung and written. Divorce is never easy on both parties when there was so much love involved. Best wishes to you and kids.

  13. Dear Elisa, you can walk the fire alone. All of us who have met you through your blog know that. My own thought is that in walking alone please let others carry some of the load for some of the time. There is a blessing both in giving and in receiving. Peace.

  16. I have read all the posts about your divorce in the past hour, so they have had an impact. And now I am crying. The sadness of it all hit me hard. So now I don't know what to say. Just sending love and hugs, I guess. Thinking of you. ~ Inger

  17. I'm just catching up and I guess I'm really behind. I only just today read about your divorce. I'm so sorry. I understand how you feel, or at least I think I do. There's a lot I might say, but none of it will make your pain any less. So I'll just say I'm sorry you're going through this. It must be agony.
