If you were going off to war (or some other similarly horrific situation) and could only take one book with you, which literary book would you take and why?
I would take the Bible or Gone With the Wind because either one of those books would remind me that God is always there and truly strong people persevere through hardship.
Not too keen on GWTW,but love the spud gun.
ReplyDeleteWent with an anthology of verse myself.
I would take "Alchemy" by Mike Wood, because I'd want to laugh in the face of horror (and increase my book sales!)
ReplyDeleteOkay, I really wouldn't bring my on book, but wanted to answer your question posed on my blog about self-publishing. Basically, I'm happy with the results (book looks great, is available through all the major channels and distributors, and I've made my money back in the first few months - BUT - it wasn't easy. I really had to work to get gigs at libraries and book stores, pay for space at fairs and flea markets, and beg for newspaper coverage - probably not THAT much different from traditionally published authors, but the self-pubbed label carries a LOT of baggage. The assumption is (and it's probably 95% correct) that self pubbed authors suck, and most places won't want to deal with you unless you can prove otherwise - problem is, getting them to read your book ISN'T the easiest way to prove it. You really have to sell yourself, rather than the novel, and from the looks of it, YOU shouldn't have a problem with that!
Sorry to take up so much precious blog space - if you want more info, feel free to email me at mikewood_3@yahoo.com
Definitely my Bible and Pride and Prejudice. To remind me that love still exists and romance is alive!
ReplyDeleteIncreasing book sales is AN AWESOME thing especially if you're in a horrific situation ;) I thought about bringing my journal. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI love Pride and Prejudice. Thanks for stopping by.
I would take something with me that would be a spirit lifter for sure! I am following from the February Blog Hop on Bloggy Moms. I'd love for you to follow back!

ReplyDeleteAbout your post... this has been my problem ever since. I have no patience on reading. My friends always ask me how come I write but I don't read. So, I cannot really relate on this... although I have heard these books you guys are talking of...
Oh my... The Bible of course...a Study Bible of course (It's like getting two books in one!)! Then... Probably a really good history book...which one would depend on what I was working on at the moment!

Yeah I think the Bible... and maybe my quote book to keep my spirits up : ) Would my Kindle count as one book ?!?!? LOL!

Found you through the blog hop. Love your post on the Spiderwick Chronicles and your subsequent honey problem. I have two young children myself and can sympathise.
ReplyDeleteHi-I am returning the blog visit and am now happy to be one of your new followers-I may have to ponder seriously reading Gone with the Wind in 2011 or at most 2012
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised how not a lot of people thought of the Bible, or any other religious book for that matter. Thanks for stopping by!
