I never did anything like that because I got my first pair of glasses about a week into first grade - and I still had to sit near the front of the class to see the board! My glasses were inevitable, though: I had 3 eye surgeries as a toddler and glasses seem to run in my family.<br /><br />This does remind me of the Baby-Sitters Club books - remember those? One of the girls has reading glasses and in one book she talks about wanting to get glasses before she knew she needed them. She tried a pair on at a drugstore and realized how more confident she is with them. So she faked her school's eye exam but discovered that she still needed them for reading.
